Vide-ouch

I met with Rey of Closeups Photos today. The meeting was originally set for 1:00pm but Jason (the videographer) called me a few hours before and reset to 1:30pm. Normally I would be peeved about this but we were running a bit late as well. Erik, Jun and I didn't rush our lunch as I didn't feel the need to be prompt either.

So Rey showed me 1 sample video. The other sample disc wasn't working. Now, if they knew they were presenting to a potential client, I don't think it is too much to ask that they check their discs to make sure they run properly. He didn't know how to operate the laptop either, and couldn't move the video forward. It's really not his fault though, as he is a photographer and not a videographer. It seems that Jason was busy editing today, and sent Rey to attend the meeting instead.

To be fair about it, the videos weren't bad. The lighting and shots were ok, and the shots weren't cheesy. The video was set to some classical background music, which segued to Enya for the wedding march. There were no chapters and titles though, making the video very documentary-like.

I asked Rey if I could see more upbeat videos with faster music, as I really didn't want one with classical background music. And he says, yes, they have other samples, but he didnt have them with him. And, oh, they don't to sample discs either. Policy, ya know???

Then I ask: "What made you decide to do the edges blurry? Why did you use that effect?"

Reply: "Ahhhhh....well, this is actually one of our older videos."

"Ummmm, so why didn't you show me one of your more recent videos?"

"Ahhhh..."

"So, maybe we better meet again and then maybe I could talk to Jason, since he's the videographer, and no offense, but I think it's pretty useless to ask you questions when you won't be doing the work, Right?"

"Yes, that would be a good idea, could you call Jason about it?"

"Yes, I will do that. I'll call Jason to see when he's free to discuss his work and show me more samples"

Ha Fucking Ha.
