Ita, Dis-comfort Food, and Losing a Bid
First an update on Ita.
He's still at the vets and will be there until Saturday. He's being catheter fed and observed by Dr. Nick,
No new seizures and it seems he gets hypoglycemic quickly because of his worms (still!) and because he is really hyperactive. So missing meals is a no no. We have to get some Karo Syrup from the grocery, and as soon as he misses a meal we need to give him the Karo and some Nutripet to keep him from getting hypoglycemic.
I sure hope Ita gets less hyper when he matures. It's quite stressful to see him go into seizures, and I am sure it isn't doing him any good either. I'm thinking of ordering some Feliway plug-ins for our office, but need to discuss with the doctor first.

Now on to food.
Mylk (My Little Kitchen)
Greenbelt 3
I've read some pretty good reviews of Mylk's food, and had intended to eat there sometime. Finally got the opportunity last week when we were stuck in Makati because it suddenly rained and we didn't want to go through heavy traffic on the way back North. The food is marketed as comfort food, something you whip up in your kitchen...but the ingredients are supposed to be of much better quality, and the food is served "with a twist"
I can sum it up as...blah.
We ordered
Baked Apple Salad - this was a green salad with a vinaigrette dressing, and a baked (in wine) apple stuffed with gorgonzola on top. best thing we ordered, although I couldn't taste the wine in the apple and it didn't have that browned caramelized top that the menu said it should have. The leaves were fresh and the dressing had poppy seeds, which I found quite interesting.
Beer Battered Mushrooms - a mix of shiitake and button mushrooms, coated in beer batter and deep fried, served with aioli. the mushrooms were fresh - good, the dip was a bit thin and was not crisp all over - bad, nothing great about the sauce.
Baby Back Ribs - pretty tasteless, seemed like they didn't marinate it for long, came with rice. oh and if you plan to ask for barbecue sauce Mylk doesn't have any. You'll have to make do with Knorr dressing.
Grilled Pork - a tasteless thick wad of grilled liempo. Menu said it would go great with vegetable rice....silly us, we assumed the dish would come with rice. The kind waiter gently explained that "No, it was only a suggestion, please ignore the photo on the menu. We only said it would go great with the rice, we never said it came with the rice. Please order the rice separately."
Mary had the Lamb Pasta - pieces of stewed lamb in a creamy sauce. The spaghetti was cut into small pieces (one of my peeves), was not al dente, and for some reason the dish reeked of B.O. (was it the fennel? the lamb?) Not bad if you ignore the smell, and this is a pretty big serving so you can pass it to your dining mate if you can't take the smell and he/she can pretend that he/she is eating an entire newly-ordered dish.
I have to say the servers are very friendly, and quick to refill our glasses of bottomless ice tea.
After dinner we came up with a new words for us to use.
Mylk - to give good reviews on a disappointing product
ex.
They don't know what good coffee is anyway, so I'll mylk them and say that McDonald's coffee is excellent.
Mylked - to believe in good reviews and be disappointed in the actual product
ex.
We had dinner at John's Bistro and had the steak, but we were mylked.
Who writes these reviews anyway?!! I really need to find a reliable food reviewer to avoid being mylked....(galing I am using my new word na hahaha)

Still not learning our lessons, we decided to have dinner at Heaven and Eggs along Tomas Morato Avenue in QC. Yes, based on 2 reviews I read. So shoot me :)
H&E does have a very wide selection, and it took us more than 15 minutes to select our dishes. My friends had the Heaven-something breakfast (the biggest breakfast that came with 4 slices of meatloaf, 3 strips of bacon, 2 eggs, hash browns, and rice or bread or pancakes PHP 245). I had the Grilled Breakfast Steak with Caramelized Onions on English Muffins, with Fried Eggs and Fried Potatos on the side (PHP 265). Our drinks were bottomless Dalandan Juice (PHP 85) and bottomless brewed Iced Tea with syrup on the side (PHP 65).
The prices aren't bad no? And the servings are large and filling. I only ate half of my dish.
Maybe it's all the eating out we do, maybe we're starting to get really picky. But we weren't too happy with the food.
The meatloaf was so-so, Berts thinks its the Tulip brand meat loaf. For a place called Heaven and Eggs, their omelets weren't nice and fluffy. They were flat and a bit overcooked...like something I would produce hahah. The steak was pretty tasteless, although they did cook it medium just as I specified. The onions were hardly what you could call caramelized, a bit undercooked so they didnt turn sweet the way they should.
The pancakes were light and fluffy, but something was missing...these were not the same quality as the pancakes Country Waffle used to serve before they got cleaned out by their owners. Berts said they would go well with buttermilk though.....
The english muffins were delicious, but they placed the steak directly on the muffin and instead of steak juice on the muffin, all I got was oil (???!!) Had to place it on a napkin for a bit or else my arteries would start complaining again heeh.
The dalandan juice was fine, the tea a bit too weak for my taste.
The bacon was good - nice, thin and crisp. The potatoes were real and toasty on the outside, soft on the inside.
The service sucked a bit. We were the only ones in the restaurant and I had to keep waving my hands to get the server's attention because most of them were just chatting around the cake counter.
Forgot to take photos, but didn't worry too much about it. Could care less. And did.

Lost a bid for 1 floor of offices. I thought we had a good chance. Our price was very good, and the client liked our design. We followed the design brief but the client decided to award to another company that did a variation on the design (and didn't follow the brief exactly).
Follow the brief or not? As a standard we adhere to the brief the client gives, but there are times when not following the brief gives you the "oomph" that gets you the job. It's really a judgement call for us...and I am trying to figure out how we should work things in future...
Oh well, its not the first time we lost a job...but still...I just fucking HATE losing.
Gotta make hapit. I want to win the next one.
