Expanding Blog Horizons

I am seriously considering consolidating my Coffee and Cigs blog with this one as I’ve been really neglectful of C&C.

With that in mind here is one of my first non-wedding related posts.

Following our stomachs

Berts and I decided to have dinner at the Fort and dropped by Embassy, a new restaurant / club at the Fort Strip.

We entered the dining area and were greeted by a glass-floored entry corridor, and very Philippe Starck-ish interiors. I’m sure the designer was browsing magazines or books looking at Starck’s work, as this was clearly reflected in the soft dining chairs, the drapery, the enlarged scale of the rectangular tables, and the large “painting” on the wall. The toilet fixtures could well have been from Duravit’s Starck series, but then again could be knockoffs by Jiemei marketing.

Now the food.

We tried the Appetizer Sampler which had 2 small jiggers of soup (mushroom, and pumpkin-tomato), citrus ceviche on taro chips, a pate / radish sandwich in miso-ish sauce, an apple salad with cranberries and vinaigrette, and an asparagus scallop salad. Lest you think we are pigs (well, we are….) the servings were really tiny.

I liked their lychee shake, hindi tipid sa fruit. But they should do something about how they blend their ice as I kept getting ice chips blocking my straw, and it’s a bit gross to keep blowing the chips back into the shake.

We had a dark chocolate tart with peppercorn infused ice cream for dessert. The ice cream was interesting and surprisingly good tasting because it just had a slight peppery aftertaste. The chocolate tart had a sucky crust, and the filling was a bit overcooked.

We’ll be back to try the main courses next time. The steak looks interesting but its almost a thousand bucks (that’s equal to 50 sticks of inihaw na liempo at countryside, so I doubt if I will ever get it)

The chef is the same guy from Uva and I can recognize his style when I read the menu.

And I’m not done yet.

We then walked over to Je Suis Gourmand at the Net One Center for the Main Course, and again ordered more than we intended.

I had an onion soup with Emmenthal cheese and Raclette (cheese overload, I know) and Roberta had a Blue Cheese Linguine. Everything was delicious, not tipid on ingredients, and surprisingly reasonably priced.

It was the dessert (2nd! Ack ang baboy talaga namin) that we really enjoyed. Caramelized Apples with Green Apple Ice Cream. Sarap! The apples looked like granny smith apples and had that tart taste that went really well with the seeetness of the caramel. So much better than the choco tart at Embassy.

Je Suis is a place we will definitely frequent.
