A Golden Oldie

Eating at Aristocrat brings back memory of my childhood. We would usually go to their Greenhills Branch on a weekend and I would spend some time pondering before making the crucial decision. What to order? Pork Barbecue or Chicken Honey?

My friends and I have actually been to both the Malate (24hr) and Jupiter Street restaurants in the past month. Jupiter also has the bakeshop next door, but for the real retro vibe I suggest the Malate main restaurant. They've got a larger selection of dishes....and the food just seems to taste better at Malate.

Good old Pork BBQ with Java rice, Fried Lumpiang Ubod, Lumpiang Shanghai

The Pork BBQ is as good as ever. Soft, pinoy-sweet, calling out "dip me, dip me in sweet Java sauce, mix me with a bit of atchara and take me in with a spoonful of that steaming Java rice"

Makes me want to wear my Adidas velcro sneakers, longback fake Lacostes, and bermuda shorts.

The other dishes? Fried Lumpiang Ubod. I've tasted better. Lumpiang Shanghai. Meh.

I couldn't resist buying some items from the bakeshop next door. The pan de sal putok is soft and large and delicious when heated a bit and served with Anchor butter. The ensaymada is soo buttery and cheesy I cant believe I never bought it before. The sans rival looks promising, but they weren't selling it by the slice so I passed on it. I may just go back for a small one if I find the right occasion.
